SYNOPSIS
Set during the Philippine Revolution of 1896 – 1897 against the Spanish colonials, A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery interconnects four narrative threads revolving around this historic event - The story of the ballad Jocelynang Baliwag which became the hymn of the revolution; Gregoria de Jesus’ harrowing search for the body of her vanquished husband, Andres Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution; the journey of Filipino fictional book heroes Simon and Isagani; as well as the role of the Philippine mythical heroes of strength, Bernardo Carpio and the half man half horse Tikbalang/ Engkanto on the Filipino psyche. This mind-bending film is a marriage of history, literature and mythology.
