Hailing from China and having lived in both Singapore and the United States, Shuyuan aspires to be a multicultural and multimedia filmmaker who explores the diversity of international art cinema and the interconnectivity of different art forms. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies (Honors) from Wesleyan University and Nancy Kathan Award for an outstanding female film major. Her latest short, SO LONG/THE WOMB, MY HOME, was awarded Steven J. Ross Prize for the best undergraduate film and was an official selection to multiple local and international film festivals, including New York Shorts International Film Festival, Paris Independent Film Festival, and Shanghai International Short Week. She has also worked on over a dozen short and feature films where she found her passion in producing and cinematography. Recently she moved from New York City back to Singapore as she starts her next chapter of adventures in filmmaking.
